God did not want to sanctify Mary as a creature–that is to say, within certain limits–or as a part (even though the principal part) of the Church. He willed to sanctity her as a whole, as “a world in herself,” as St Bernard says. He gave her a fullness of grace that was indeed finite in comparison with that of our Lord, but which had a kind of infinity in comparison with the grace given to us.
