MY HOPE

Saint Therese, Carmelite of Lisieux

Though in a foreign land I dwell afar,
I taste in dreams the endless joys of heaven.
Fain would I fly beyond the farthest star,
And see the wonders to the ransomed given!
No more the sense of exile weighs on me,
When once I dream of that immortal day.
To my true fatherland, dear God! I see,
For the first time I soon shall fly away.
Ah! give me, Jesus! wings as white as snow,
That unto Thee I soon may take my flight.
I long to be where flowers unfading blow;
I long to see Thee, O my heart’s Delight!
I long to fly to Mary’s mother arms,
To rest upon that spotless throne of bliss;
And, sheltered there from troubles and alarms,
For the first time to feel her gentle kiss.
Thy first sweet smile of welcoming delight
Soon show, O Jesus! to Thy lowly bride;
O’ercome with rapture at that wondrous sight,
Within Thy Sacred Heart, ah! let me hide.
O happy moment! and O heavenly grace!
When I shall hear Thee, Jesus, speak to me;
And the full vision of Thy glorious Face
For the first time my longing eyes shall see.
Thou knowest well, my only martyrdom
Is love, O Heart of Jesus Christ! for Thee;
And if my soul craves for its heavenly home,
‘Tis but to love Thee more, eternally.
Above, when Thy sweet Face unveiled I view,
Measure nor bounds shall to my love be given;
Forever my delight shall seem as new
As the first time my spirit entered heaven.

Apology

A good drunk is never enough
The vomiting, the shitting,
The heartbreak, the loneliness,
The abandonment of God,
Betraying Mary, who showed
Herself to me, the fear, the shame,
How many people have I hurt,
The number continues to grow,
Nobody trust me, I don’t trust
Myself, I feel sick, I am sick,
I am sorry Lord, forgive me

Pope John Paul II: Roman Triptych Part 1

The Stream

Ruah

The Spirit of God hovered above the waters.

1. Wonderment

The undulating wood slopes down
to the rhythm of mountain streams.
To me this rhythm is revealing You,
the Primordial Word.

How remarkable is Your silence

in everything, in all that on every side
unveils the created world around us …
all that, like the undulating wood,
runs down every slope …
all that is carried away by the stream’s
silvery cascade,
rhythmically falling from the mountain,
carried by its own current—carried where?

What are you saying to me, mountain stream?
Where, in which place, do we meet?
Do you meet me who is also passing—
just like you.

But is it like you?
(Allow me to pause here;
allow me to stop at a threshold,
the threshold of simple wonder).
The running stream cannot marvel,
and silently the woods slope down,
following the rhythm of the stream—
but man can marvel!
The threshold which the world crosses in him
is the threshold of wonderment.
(Once, this very wonder was called “Adam”).

He was alone in his wonder,
among creatures incapable of wonder—
for them it is enough to exist and go their way.
Man went his way with them,
filled with wonder!
But being amazed, he always emerged
from the tide that carried him,
as if saying to everything around him:
“Stop—in me is your harbour”,
“in me is the place of meeting
with the Primordial Word”.
“Stop, this passing has meaning …
has meaning … has meaning”.

2. The source

The undulating wood slopes down
to the rhythm of mountain streams….
If you want to find the source,
you have to go up, against the current,
tear through, seek, don’t give up,
you know it must be somewhere here.
Where are you, source? Where are you, source?!

Silence….
Stream, stream in the wood,
tell me the secret of your beginning!

(Silence—why are you silent?
How carefully you have hidden the secret of your beginning).

Allow me to wet my lips
in spring water,
to feel its freshness,
reviving freshness.

Origin, a Life, Guiding to an End

Messy,
Uncomfortable and uneasy,
Peaks and valleys,
Sunshine and rain,
Seeking,
Humbly circular,
Life advances,
Lacking and accumulation,
And through it all,
Through resistance,
Interiorly,
Trust and wisdom,
As something undeserved,
Sublimely emerge.

Joseph and Mary after finding the child Jesus being about His Father’s business

They stood
So quietly and with such air of held
Suspended things, there might have been a flow
Of silence longer than the throbs of time
Can measure or endure; till Joseph spoke
Of haste and roads that still were waiting them
To Nazareth. The hush was gentle then,
And simple words were uttered easily,
And lighting smiles had come to almost hide
The inner shadows moving in their eyes,
But naught of shyness nor the strained defeat
Of ease, nor any cold constraint that cast
A reticence about their older ways.
They were not more aware of Him. No new
Attainment of a reverence had reached
Them that had not been clear, and only now
More certain portents shone within the days,
And she had found another kind of tears.
His words were dreams, and stars, and shepherds’ feet
Again, and swords, and Simeon’s avowal
Brought more near, and in a sudden speech
Made imminent. They had not thought that none
Would fall again. But greater gift was asked
In what she’d heard, and deeper draught of pain.
And she’d been waiting. For the long years now
She had been waiting. Only loneliness
Was new.

Reality

I’ll never be without HIM,
In heaven or hell,
Sane or insane,
Still or unwell,
I’ll never be without HIM,

Unpleasantness Until Consent

I rebel against who I am.
Negative reaction, instinct,
Dishonesty, self-absorbed,
Inability to cope,
Emotions and feelings,
Desperate, despairing,
Delusion, self-esteem,
Romantic flight from reality,
Futile, unfriendly, casting about,
I rebel therefore I am,
Increasing wrongs,
Decreasing remedies.

Stepping back, impatient,
Breathing space, insubordination,
Waiting hungry, tired, and cold,
Unwashed, somewhat slightly dazed,
Resignation, no offense,
Lacking hope, isolation,
Minimize aggression, cessation,
Beyond rebellion,
Powerlessness, progress,
A frown not enough,
Sadness penetrating, purgative,
Sterile, stagnate, pregnant.

Consent, positive arising,
Interior attitude transformed,
Both the good and the bad,
The ugly recognized, revealed,
Psychic change, weakness,
Hope blossoming,
Roots revealed, upended,
Flowering within suffering,
Sacrifice and mortification,
Sanctuary, the Church, consecration,
The saints and guardian angels,
God loves, trust emerges.
